Dylan's first day of First Grade!

Today Dylan got on the bus to his first day of First Grade!  Nana and Puna took him shopping for new school clothes on Sunday and he was all set!

He was even a huge helper to his best friend Logan as he was a first time bus rider going into kindergarten.  When the bus arrived at Logan's stop and he was getting nervous about it all, he hears Dylan's shouts from inside the bus.  "Logan, it's me Dylan!"  The bus driver let Logan sit with Dylan instead of the other kindergarteners.  All much to Logan's parent's pleasure.

Today starts the beginning of all day school for Dylan.  No more playtime after lunch.  It's back to the books.  Homework is real now and will be graded.  It's time to get back to structure and discipline and no more lazy evenings of accomplishing nothing.  We're getting serious here!  This is FIRST GRADE!!

The first year of school that I remember the most has to be third grade with Mrs. Mosely.  She was one of my favorite teachers!  There I'd met a new friend, Aaron.  Aaron was the first person that I'd ever met that wrote with his left hand (just like my mommy!)  And Aaron had never had rice krispie treats until he met me!  It was a match made in heaven!  I ran into Aaron a week or so ago.  He wants to get together and have rice krispie treats and catch up.  lol

Anyways, below is a picture of Dylan waiting for the school bus.  I'm sure there will be plenty of paperwork tonight, stories of the bus, lunch time and his new class mates.  I'm looking forward to hearing all about it.  :)

Open House

Last night, Dylan met his 1st grade teacher, Ms. Fickes.  There will be many changes to what his idea of school is this year.  The day isn't over at 11 AM anymore...he'll be at school until 2:30 PM.  He won't have 1 small assignment each night....he'll have a math and a reading/writing assignment Monday through Thursday.  School is now a big deal....for him and for me.  I can't believe that he's getting so big and so old!

Enjoy your kids!  Enjoy your childhood!  Don't be so eager to grow up!!  You can't get the time back...so don't try.

An eventful week from Lil Man!

This week Dylan experienced 2 major firsts.

First, Tuesday there was an earthquake on the east coast.  Dylan was playing on the playground....so he didn't feel anything.  lol

Second, Friday through Sunday, Hurricane Irene came to visit us.  We spent the weekend at Nana and Puna's house.  Glad we did....the power at our house went out at 11 AM and we had a good foot of water in the garage.  But at Nana's house....dry and power lasted until 9:30 PM.  The power was back on at home this afternoon and we were able to go home and shower and watch some tv.  :)

In Mommy fashion I had to document the weekend with pictures!

Traffic trying to get out of the area on Thursday evening prior to Hurricane Irene's arrival.

Hope you aren't hungry....

Cause there is hardly anything left!

Dylan at his checkup Thursday.  Getting his ears checked.
Dylan weighted in at 42 lbs and 3ft 10 inches!  Getting so big!!!

Earthquakes and Cereal

So today in Virginia we experienced an earthquake!  Dylan's first...he says that he didn't even feel it.  lol  Oh well!  I however, was in the second floor of my office and DEFINITELY felt it!  A 5.9 in Virginia!!  My goodness!!

Lucky we are all okay.
Dylan being goofy just before bedtime.

Today we were planning on having tacos....but....I forgot to take the hamburger out.  Shame Shame Mommy!!  So, dinner was a bowl of Kix.  It's Kid Tested, Mother Approved!!  :)

Tomorrow evening may be a playdate with his bestie Logan!

Have a great and safe evening!  M & D

Sunday with Matteo!

As with our usual Sunday tradition, Dylan and I went to church this morning. Well I to church and he to Sunday school. Dylan always enjoys playing with his friends, especially Izzy!  She's the eldest daughter of friends of lifegroup.  Very good people and kind kids!!

We planned on going to visit friends of ours and their new baby and made our way that direction. We spent a couple hours there chatting and playing. Matteo is doing so well with nursing and sleeping. And what a handsome boy!!!  (Looking forward to plenty more playdates!)

Dylan (age 6.5) and Matteo (6 days old)
We made our way to the grocery store, ran into Nana in the bread aisle!  Shopped along side her for a few aisle until we got separated.  Then as soon as we checked out the sky feel down and there was a flash flood in the parking lot!  We waiting for awhile with the other shoppers and as soon as there was a lull in the downpour everyone made a break for it!  We nearly drowned while trying to make our way to the car. Good thing we can swim!!

Tomorrow is a mommy night. But then it's Taco Tuesday!! You'll be hearing about my sous chef shorty;)
Have a great evening everyone!! M & D

A little late

So he's nearly 7...but there is no time like the present to start documenting his life.
So here it goes...
This morning, Saturday, is the when he and I go to Barnes and Noble, I do a little writing with coffee and he enjoys some one on one time with my cell phone and all of the apps it has to offer.  haha
Then by noon his Dad arrives to spend time with him.
This morning we woke up early, got a chance to get some breakfast out....a special treat!
McDonalds it was!!  Dylan was thrilled...but it took my forever to get myself moving so he was getting very hungry, and a bit whinny.  By the time that we'd arrived at McD's just 2 miles from our house, he'd complained of a stomach ache, one shoe was tighter than the other and he wanted more stinking Pokemon cards.  Ugh....darn you Pichu!!
Dylan telling me about the power of one Pokemon over another.

We both enjoyed some pancakes and oj...though he still wasn't up in spirits.  He slowly turned positive when I told him that I'd be going to the store later and bringing a pack of  "something special" to give to him after Sunday School the following day.  The world was then perfect in his eyes!  Oh...that is until I downloaded a Pokemon app onto my phone that allows him to check on all MILLION pokemon credentials.  What happened to Baseball cards?!?!  Oh well....he's a boy.  This is what he likes.  I guess I'll deal with it.  haha
Until next time....hug them, kiss them and tell them that you love them everyday!  M & D

Tomorrow we'll be visiting a friend of Dylan and mine, Jessie and Pasquale, and their new baby Matteo!!  Stay tuned for pics of Dylan and the new addition!!
